The SNP in North East Fife have welcomed the Labour Government’s recent change of heart over Post Office Card Accounts.
Rod Campbell, who has contested NE Fife for the SNP in Westminster
and Holyrood elections, said,
“This is good news however late in the day. Labour have
been forced to see sense at last and have recognised that putting the PO Card Account out to tender would have meant disaster
to countless Post Office branches across Scotland.”
Rod Campbell continued, “This Labour
U-turn is the result of the determined campaign that has been waged by postmasters and local communities. Post Offices are
at the heart of local communities especially in rural areas like North East Fife.”
“Don’t forget that this announcement comes too late for the Post Office in Elie and it will
not guarantee an end to further closures.” said Rod.
“What we urgently need is a commitment by the UK
Government to a sustainable and viable network of Post Office branches. It is not acceptable that so many Post Offices in
rural Fife and across Scotland continue
to face an uncertain future.”
