Rod Campbell accuses Scottish
Liberal Democrats of having their heads in the sand over constitutional change
Last weekend the Scottish Liberal Democrats refused to support
a referendum allowing the Scottish people to have their say on their constitutional future. Now, in the wake of the
ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, a pledge to allow the British people a vote on continued membership of the European Union
appears to have been quietly dropped.
ROD CAMPBELL, SNP CANDIDATE FOR NORTH EAST FIFE at the Westminster
election said, “It is only a matter of weeks since JO SWINSON, junior foreign
affairs spokesperson, said it was Liberal Democrat policy to have a vote on continued membership of the
European Union. Ms. Swinson put forward her case on the basis that no one of her generation had had the opportunity of voting
in the 1975 referendum and was seemingly unaware of the irony that no generation of Scots has ever had the opportunity of
voting in a referendum on independence.” “Now it would appear from the Lib/Dem policy website that a European
referendum has fallen by the wayside,” said Rod Campbell, “yet Liberal Democrats continue to support the idea
of referenda as part of the process of creating the English regional assemblies of which
they are in favour.” ROD CAMPBELL challenged SIR MENZIES CAMPBELL,MP to
admit that Liberal Democrats have no consistent policy on referenda and play fast and loose with their
support for them. “Sooner or later Liberal Democrats must accept
that the people are entitled to their say on the future Government of Scotland and adopting a head in the sand mentality is
demeaning to the electorate.” said Rod.
