SNP say: "Simply not true"
The background:
Labour
have claimed that the SNP Government haven't met their promise to match the previous administrations school building programme
"brick for brick".
The Scottish Parliamentary Library (SPiCE) released figures which show that in 2005
there were 1180 schools in the worst two ratings (poor and bad). In 2009, there are just 631.
The
truth:
The SNP Government has already completed 236 new or refurbished schools in just two years, already
surpassing the 205 schools Labour managed in a full four year term.
After 12 years of their maladministration,
the SNP Government inherited a schools estate that was simply not fit for purpose with 260,000 pupils being educated in substandard
buildings.
The SNP have already lifted 100,000 pupils from poor conditions to modern, cutting-edge facilities.
With
£2 billion already being invested in the school estate, we have gone even further with the recent announcement of an
additional £1.25 billion.
